One of the very first Cobra replicas to hit the UK specialist car scene in the mid-1980s, the Python was produced successfully until the early 1990s by a company called Unique Autocraft of Harlow, Essex. Based on Jaguar running gear and mostly using Chevy V8 power, a total of 99 examples were made. Thanks to their finely engineered chassis, excellent standards of finish and stunning performance, these Pythons quickly established the marque's reputation as one of the best of the Cobra breed. Shown below are 3 shots of these early cars.
Now, well over a decade since the first production run ended, this prestigious and desirable replica is back on the market in completely updated and much developed form. RV Dynamics of Reigate, Surrey, bought the project and production rights early in 2002 and, after the company's engineering director Vince Wright had redesigned the chassis to use BMW 5-series running gear, launched the new RV Python at the National Kit & Performance Car Show at Donington in September 2004.
Since then, a sizeable factory has been established just south of Colombo in Sri Lanka, where Vince Wright oversees manufacture of chassis and bodies and concentrates on further development. Once they've been shipped to the UK, our kits are stored in a modern farm unit in Essex. The sales and marketing sides of the business are looked after at the Reigate showroom by RV's other directors, Peter Filby and Sally Mitchell. |
